Disclaimer and Contact

This blog is supposed to be a collection of information available on the World Wide Web and organised into one convenient place. It is the work of one man and not only uses the research carried out by the author of this blog, but also the research of many others.

Most of the posts in this blog are a 'work in progress' and quite often a 'placeholder' post has been added in order to enter the information in front of me so that I don't forget. Please don't comment about how much I've missed out, especially with the more well-known artists. I probably know. Sometimes I may only have entered a gig or one member of a group. This doesn't necessarily mean that I haven't any more information, just that I haven't had the time to enter it yet. Occasionally, especially with the more obscure artists, this may be all I have at the moment. However if you do see an error or an obvious detail that is missing feel free to comment below the relevant post.

The pictures displayed here are obtained from many sources. Some are in the public domain and some are not. If you are not happy with a picture that you own the copyright to being displayed here then please email me and I will take it down if I deem that you have sufficient cause to object and/or proof of ownership.

I am not spending the hours on this blog to earn large amounts of money. In fact, even with advertising, it is in my experience that money earned in this way normally amounts to less than £5 per year. You can therefore assume that this is a labour of love from a fan of Fifties and Sixties music, who enjoys the research and the discoveries therein.

I was born in the 1960s and therefore missed most of this great period of music, but thanks to my large collection of vinyl I am able to experience it the way it should be experienced, crackles and all! I intend to keep the interest in these artists alive and hope you will help me rather than take offence to anything I have posted.

Please comment under the posts or write to me at britishchallenge@gmail.com

The 'known gigs' that feature on many pages are sometimes taken from the advertising of the day and does not take into account the possibility of cancellations or changes to the advertised line-up of entertainment. Please keep this in mind if you intend to treat this information as law...it is not, but it does give a fair indication of the intended gigs of a particular artist. Where possible I will try and fill in details, where it is known, that an advertised gig didn't happen.

History and information should be free. If you want to use anything from my blog, be my guest.

*********A NOTE TO OTHER WEBSITES*********

You cannot copyright facts. For example, if a group played a gig in a particular venue on a particular night, then that is a fact and should be reproduced wherever it needs to be. I know that you have spent years researching for your website, I have too. But it is like trying to copyright the fact that the sky is blue. If a website seems to be well researched and as complete as it can be, I would rather point readers in their direction. The downside to that is that websites have a limited lifespan, usually associated with how long somebody wants to carry on paying for it. Examples I've come across are great and detailed websites for the groups The Hullabaloos and The Pathfinders. Both are now defunct! This means the information is no longer available unless somebody has already reproduced the facts on their own site.

However, if you have written a lovely piece of work on your website and someone else has lifted and reproduced it verbatim, that is wrong. Trying to copyright that sort of thing properly is expensive and you probably won't be able to protect yourself from everyone stealing it, but I wish you well trying.

Thanks for reading this. Now let's get back to the greatest era of music.

  2. Found this site by accident. I'm Pete Houston and was the bass guitarist with Dene Wayne and the Exiles. You have us listed, I was surprised to see! I couldn't find any mention of Danny Burns and the Phantoms. They were from Birmingham and were in Hamburg with us in May '64. We were on at the Hit Club in the Grosse Freiheit, next door but one to the Indra where The Beatles started their Hamburg career. The photograph you have of us is on stage at the Hit Club. I was just 19 at the time and had all my hair!

Good luck with the site. I'll return often and spread the word about it.

    Regards, Pete
