Formed in South London.
The League of Gentlemen were formed out of a previous group called The Icebreakers, which featured Ronnie Cleave, in the early 1960s.
Joel James had previously played in the US as part of Bobby Vee's backing band.
They backed visiting US acts like The Exciters, Roy C, Charlie and Inez Foxx, Don Covay and Lee Dorsey.
They made two trips to Germany to play the clubs there. In 1965 they played at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg, seven night a week, often alternating with another UK group call The Pentad. In 1966 they played in both Dusseldorf and Frankfurt at clubs very popular with US servicemen on their way to Vietnam.
This group is not the one with Robert Fripp in. That one is here.
