The Cherokees were a splinter group from the Off-Beats, who had backed singer Ricky Wayne.
When Lee Diamond left the group, The Cherokees found a new singer, Vic Mardell, and continued to perform until 1965.
Ron Bowdery and Paul Brice had previously played in Ricky Wayne and the Flee-Rakkers, Ricky Wayne and the Offbeats, and The Offbeats.
