'Dance Round the Maypole' was written and produced by Roy Wood. Wood also sang lead vocals (according to Jeff Christie) with his future Move/ELO bandmate Jeff Lynne on backing vocals. 'Right Toe Blues' was written by the band itself and delevoped from a jam session with keyboardist Alan Hawkshaw.
