Formed in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Tony Gosling, Henry Temple, Brian Sleight and Rob Coggle, alongside Johnny Patterson, were all in the original line-up of the Aces, who were a skiffle group. Johnny Hawk joined the group in 1959 as vocalist and the group became Johnny Hawk and the Aces for a couple of years. Sometime after Johnny Hawk left in the early 1960s, the group changed their name to the Four Aces until reverting back to the Aces in 1963 when they were signed by Parlophone. They released two singles in 1963 and recorded one more that was not released.
Sometime before being signed Rick Kemp was drafted into the group for a short while. Rick Kemp later played for Steeleye Span.
John Patterson was later in The Small Four.
