Formed in Birmingham.
The Vikings formed as a skiffle group in 1958.
Carl Wayne joined in 1961 as backup lead singer when their other lead singer, Keith Powell, couldn't make it to some of the gigs. Carl stayed on when Keith returned and for a while the group was called Keith Powell, Carl Wayne and the Vikings. Keith Powell left in 1962.
Around this time the group recorded for Pye records, releasing a total of three singles. One was a USA only release.
When Barry Harber left in 1964, the Vikings brought in a temporary replacement in Tony Lewis.
'Ace' Kefford joined in 1964. Replacing Tony Lewis on bass guitar.
Carl Wayne left in 1966 to form The Move and The Vikings disbanded.
Bev Bevan joined Carl Wayne and the Vikings in 1965, replacing Dave Hollis on drums just before setting off to play the clubs in Germany.
Ace Kefford and Bev Bevan formed the Move with Carl Wayne and Roy Wood at the beginning of 1966.
Johnny Mann replaced Roy Wood in Mike Sheridan and The Nightriders (or Mike Sheridan's Lot), with Mike Sheridan on the verge of leaving and forming Mike Sheridan's New Lot.
Terry Wallace joined Mike Sheridan's New Lot.
Carl Wayne later recorded a lot of vocals for advertising campaigns such as Weetabix.
