Formed in Liverpool as Tony Golby and the Goldminers in the late 1950s.
Managed by Dave Forshaw.
Alan Walton left to join The Soul Seekers. He was replaced by Paul Lofthouse on bass guitar.
Arthur Gilbert also left to be replaced by Ronnie Barker on drums.
In 1964 The Premiers recorded an EP on acetate including the songs 'Beautiful Delilah', 'Skinny Minnie', 'I'm Blue' and 'Honest I Do'. The latter two songs being group originals.
Briefly changed their name to The Gonks before becoming The Mersey Gonks by the middle of November 1964.

24 May 1964 Liverpool, The Cavern, Mathew Street. With The Kinsleys, The Connoisseurs, Ian Crawford and the Boomerangs, and Them Grimbles.
