Formed in Liverpool.
Previously known as The Premiers, and for a short while The Gonks.
In 1965, Tony Lane left to join The Inbeats, who later changed their name to The Phoenix Sound.
Paul Lofthouse left in 1965 and was replaced by Alan Walton on bass guitar.
Alan Walton had previously been in The Premiers, but then left to join The Soul Seekers.
Ronnie Barker left in 1965 and was replaced by Peter Wheelan on drums.
A singer and rhythm guitarist called Gary Barker also joined at this time. Gary had previously been in The Soul Seekers, who had recently disbanded.
The Mersey Gonks later changed their name to The Pityful before evolving into Chapter Six.
In 2019, The Mersey Gonks reformed to play for fun and for charities like Merseycats, The Rock and Roll Children's Charity. The lineup includes Dennis Conroy, Alan Walton, Gary Barker and drummer Pat Martin.
