Formed in Birmingham, West Midlands in 1961.
Managed by Reg Calvert.
Rod Allen, Barry Pritchard and Gary Fletcher had previously been in Robbie Hood and his Merry Men.
Had a residency at Clifton Hall in Rugby, Warwickshire.
The Fortunes were originally backed by the instrumental group The Cliftones who were credited on their first single for Decca 'Summertime, Summertime'.
Shel Macrae replaced Glen Dale in 1966 and took on much of the lead vocal duties as well as playing rhythm guitar.
