Formed in Horsham, West Sussex in 1962 as The Hustlers.
Ralph Worman and Geoff Farndell were cousins.
Changed their name to Pete and the Hustlers.
Les Rogers, the original drummer, was replaced, after he was involved in a motorcycle accident, by Vic Sendall. Vic Sendall was previously in the Texans.
Pete Toal left to emigrate to Australia in 1963 and was replaced by Chris Boyle who had also been in the Texans. It was around this time that they changed their name to the Merchants.
