Represented by the Roy Tempest Agency. In 1963 John Kirby Wollard used the pseudonym Roy Starr so the group was often billed as Roy Starr and the Cherokees.
Won the Mecca Silver Cup in 1963 for the best rock 'n' roll group.
Appeared on BBC2's 'Beat Room' television show on 17 August 1964,with Tommy Tucker, Christine Holmes, Troy Dante and the Infernos, and The Naturals.
Appeared on ITV's 'Ready Steady Go!' on 21 Aug 1964. With Brenda Lee, Helen Shapiro, P. J. Proby, Duffy Power, and Wayne Gibson and The Dynamic Sounds.
The Cherokees appeared in the comedy film 'You Must Be Joking' in 1965, directed by Michael Winner and starring Lionel Jeffries, Bernard Cribbins and Terry Thomas.
In 1966 they changed their name to New York Public Library.
