Ivor Jay
Ivor Jay and the Jaywalkers were apparently a 'beat' group from London. They are more famous for not playing a gig than anything else when they failed to show up to a supposed showdown between a northern group and a London group in a 'Battle of the Bands' situation. The other group were The Beatles, who were yet to make an impact nationally. Only a handful of people turned up to watch the show and so it became a rather intimate performance, not taken too seriously. Sam Leach was the promoter. This could be described as a turning point for The Beatles who very soon signed with Brian Epstein.
Known Gigs
9 Dec 1961 Aldershot, Palais Ballroom, Queen's Road. With The Beatles. Ivor Jay and the Jaywalks didn't show up.
16 Dec 1961 Aldershot, Palais Ballroom, Queen's Road. With Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
