Formed in Harrow, Middlesex in late 1963.

Originally called The Roosters, the group changed the spelling to The Wrewsters. After a short while the name was changed to The King Bees. They gigged under this name until they discovered that Davie Jones and The King Bees were also gigging around London. Adrian Stambach met with Davie Jones (who was later to change his name to David Bowie) at the ATV studios in Aldwych on 19th June 1964 to see if he could persuade him to change his group name. "We had a nice chat and he asked me if my group had a record release out under that name, when I said not yet, he said "oh well, we have" - end of conversation." - Adrian Stambach. 

Adrian Stambach was previously in The Cravats (or Cravattes) with Jesse Hector.

It was manager Bob Rowbottom who came up with the name 'The Clique'.

Recorded an EP in 1964 with original drummer Trevor Roberts that went unreleased until 2011.

Brian Morris replaced Trevor Roberts on drums in 1964.

Later managed by Larry Page with whom they recorded two singles for Pye Records.
