Jet Harris and Tony Meehan were both formerly in The Drifters, who backed Cliff Richard whilst also maintaining a career on their own playing instrumentals. The Drifters eventually changed their name to the Shadows.

In April 1963, Jet and Tony formed a new backing band which included the guitarist Joe Moretti.

Both Jet and Tony also had solo careers.
